A fundraiser has been launched to help Armley Junk-tion café, after thieves broke in earlier this week.

As reported by The Dispatch yesterday, the would-be thieves left the pay as you feel café empty handed, prompting café owner Adam Smith to issue an ‘apology’ to the perpetrators.

Mr Smith says he fully understand the desperation of many in the community that may have contributed to the attempted burglary on Wednesday night. The intruders smashed a window and ransacked the office.

A crowdfunding campaign to raise £1,000 has now been launched to help repair the damage. In the first 11 hours, the donations raised £230.

The appeal, made on website GoFundMe, says:

“The cafe now simply wishes to repair the damage caused by the would-be burglar… the cafe in no way operates for financial gain and functions entirely on the ethic of intercepting food waste to provide healthy meals, often to people who may otherwise be struggling.

“Any donations will be gratefully received and will play a massive part in continuing to support a treasured part of the local community.”
