Get ready for ballet with a fun twist in Bramley! New ‘aqua ballet’ sessions starts at Bramley Baths today – and the first class is free.

The original classes have been developed by dance school owner Lisa Rutter and are open to all.

Lisa thought the balance bars around the Edwardian pool could be used for a ballet barre class in the water. She said:

“The class will follow the structure of a ballet barre class but because we are in water it will be very safe for the joints, so it will be suitable for all ages.

“Ballet can improve posture whilst toning and sculpting all the muscles.

“You won’t need any ballet or swimming experience to take part. Obviously you can’t do the class with a broken leg but other than that as long as I know if you’ve got any physical conditions, then you should be absolutely fine to take part.”

Classes start today, Monday, 5 September, 8.15pm-9pm.

Aqua ballet is free to ‘Unlimited Members’ at the Baths. Pay-as-you-go per class is £4.40 (LeedsCard discounts available).

The Autumn timetable at the Baths starts today and includes extended opening hours on Sunday afternoons/evenings.

The new Sunday Service includes adult swimming lessons and Bramley Mermaids Club.

The Baths also hosted Leeds & Bradford Tri Club’s “GO TRI” mini-triathlon last weekend. The event featured a 250-yard swim followed by a 5km bike on the road, finishing with a 1.5k run.
