New Wortley Community Arts Project is a two-year programme of arts activities aimed at tackling social isolation, improving self confidence and empowering both individuals and the local community, writes Tim Dawtry.

It consists of weekly sessions in creative writing, guitar Lessons, live music jam, drama and the community choir. In addition, project members take part in live performances and produce a quarterly writing journal.

We are also looking to develop wider work such as a large-scale piece of musical theatre and setting up an on-line radio station.

We are looking for individuals to help develop and deliver the project at New Wortley Community Centre.

This could involve any of the following:

  • Helping run sessions.
  • Helping organise community events and performances.
  • Helping design and deliver publicity and promotion.
  • Developing the project social media profile
  • Getting involved with developing the future of the project.

We feel this a great volunteering opportunity with a really exciting project. It provides an excellent learning environment for anyone looking to work in community arts or for anyone who has spare time and wants to put their skills to good use in the community.
